Taipei top scenic sites by MRT

Many of Taipei's top scenic sites and shopping areas are within easy walking distance of an MRT station, making the subway a great way to see the city.

Taipei Zoo
The spacious Taipei Zoo includes a children's area,Asian tropical rain forest area, and Taiwan animal area. There is also a shuttle bus service with- in the zoo.

Da-an Forest Park
As lush as the name implies,this city park is a great place for a picnic, walk, or bike ride.Performances are also frequently held at the outdoor stage.


Area bordered by Sec. 3, Xinyi Rd., Sec. 2,Jianguo S. Rd., Sec. 2, Xinsheng (Sinsheng) S.Rd., and Sec. 2; Heping E. Rd. Take the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line to the Technology Building and walk along Heping E. Rd. for about 15 mins.

Maokong
This tea-growing area in Muzha is a good place to enjoy Taiwan's worldfamous
teas. Make sure to try the fragrant local Guanyin tea.


Zhinan Rd, Taipei Take the MRT Wenshan-Neihu Line to the Taipei Zoo Station and catch the Minibus 10, or take the Maokong Gondola to Makong.

Ximending
The Ximending shopping area is usually abuzz with young people hunting for
the latest in Japanese and western cheap chic. Make sure to try a bowl of flourrice noodles at Ay-Chung's

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall
Built in memory of R.O.C. founding father Dr. Sun Yatsen,this memorial hall frequently hosts major art exhibitions and other cultural activities. The hall is situated in a large park with a pond for a scenic in-city stroll.

Huaxi Street
With its collection of food stalls and foot massage clinics,Huaxi Street Night
Market has long been one of Taipei's top attractions for international visitors. Nearly every regional snack is sold here, offering a good sample of the many flavors of Taiwan.

Huashan Culture Park
The centerpiece at this park is a former winery converted in 1997 into a venue
for performance art and other cul tural act ivi t ies.Several other historical bui ldings can also be enjoyed here.

Puppetry Art Center of Taipei
Located next to the Living Mall, the Puppetry Art Center has breathed new life into the traditional art of puppetry with displays, performances,and classes on this fascinating art form.

228 Memorial Peace Park
The namesake memorial here was erected in honor of the 228 Incident in 1947.
The park is also home to the National Taiwan Museum,two historic memorial arches and two retired steam locomotives.

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
Erected in memory of the late R.O.C. president, this stately blue-roofed edifice is
f lanked in front by the equally impressive National Concert Hall and National
Theater. The hourly honor guard display is a popular attraction here.

Bitan
Although its name literally translates as "Green Lake,"Bitan is in fact a slow-flowing section of the Xindian River. This is a popular destination for paddle boating,weekend concerts, and riverside strolls. There are several cafes in the scenic area to enhance the view.

Shida Road
Located near Taiwan Normal University, Shida Rd. and its tentacular lanes are often referred to as Shida Night Market. This area is packed with reasonably priced restaurants, snack stalls,trendy cafes, pubs, and fashionable boutiques that attract a largely student clientele.

Gongguan
Restaurants, bookstores,street stal ls and a smal l night market offer bargain eats and fashion for the largely student cl ientele from nearby Taiwan University. Make sure to save time for a stroll through the leafy university campus.


Roosevelt Rd., Xinsheng S. Rd. and Dinzho Rd. Take the MRT Xindian Line to
the Gongguan Station.

Museum of Drinking Water
Vintage pumping facilities and a Baroque-style museum building are among the top attractions at this grade-three historic site dedicated to one of Earth's most precious substances. The park is especially attractive lighted at night.

Taipei Eye

Danshui Old Street
This street is lined with oldtime buildings and shops selling "iron eggs" and other famous local snacks.

Fort San Domingo
Built by the Spanish in 1629, this Danshui landmark opens a window to Taiwan's early colonial history.Also make sure to visit the nearby Red Castle to enjoy Chinese cuisine in a yesteryear ambiance.

Little White House
The Little White House,named for its white exterior,was the former residence of
the chief customs officer in the Qing period. It was designated as a historic site in
1997.

Huwei Fort
Built in 1886 by Taiwan's first governor, Liu Mingchuan,this grade-two historic
site has several old gun emplacements. This is also a good spot to view the Danshui River.

Fisherman's Wharf
This newly developed tourist hot spot is a good place to enjoy the scenic Danshui River. Boat tours depart frequently from the wharf. There are also several decent seafood restaurants here.

Bali Left Bank
A short ferry trip from Danshui, Bali has a nice riverside park with restaurants
as well as walking and bike paths.

Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology
Discover Taiwan's prehistoric past at this archaeological site turned museum at
the mouth of the Danshui River. Excavated relics up to 1,500 years old are on display here.

Taipei Fine Arts Museum
Built in 1983, the TFAM is Taiwan's first museum of modern art. Apart from its permanent displays of contemporary art, the TFAM hosts special exhibitions of works by local and international artists.

Miniatures Museum of Taiwan
Asia's first and the world's second miniatures museum, MMOT presents the globe's biggest miniature collection. For over a decade, the museum has been acquiring pieces from around the world, from amazingly detailed dollhouses to fairytale scenes.

Shilin Official Residence
History and flower gardens come together at the home of late President Chiang Kai-shek, now open to the public.

This is Taiwan's largest mangrove preserve and the world's biggest forest of

Hakka Culture in Neiwan & Beipu

Neiwan and Beipu are home to large Hakka communities, the cultural influence of which can be seen in the local architecture and cuisine. Neiwan Train Station This station welcomes visitors with rustic charm and scenic surroundings. The building is colorfully adorned with illustrations by a well-known local cartoonist. The old part of town is located just across the street. From Taipei Main Station take the train to Hsinchu and then take the Neiwan Branch Line to Neiwan. Neiwan Suspension Bridge This 14.7-meter-long bridge spans the Youluo River in the town of Neiwan. The bridge offers an excellent vantage from which to enjoy the picturesque views of the surrounding mountains and the river passing below. The riverbanks under the bridge are popular fishing spots.
