Pingxi Lantern & Train Tour

The train to Pingxi winds through a scenic terrain of mountains, rivers and forests, making the trip as
enjoyable as the charms of the destination itself.

Pingxi Train Station
Located on the Pingxi Branch Line, Pingxi Station is surrounded by greenery and rustic houses. The leisurely pace of the town infects one as soon as you disembark from the train.


From Taipei Main Station take the Yilan Line to the Rueifang Station and then take the Pingxi Branch Line to Pingsi.

Pingxi Old Street
The tranquil old streets of Pingsi are lined with long narrow townhouses that seem to have been forgotten by time. This scene is completed by the many old homes perched along the riverside and railway that runs through the town.


Pingxi St . and Shihdi St . , Pingxi District, New Taipei City From Taipei Main Station take the northbound train to Rueifang and continue to Pingxi on the Pingxi Branch Line. Follow Zhonghua Rd. to Pingxi St. or Shihdi St.

Shifen Waterfall
At 40m wide and 20m high, this is one of Taiwan's biggest and mightiest waterfalls. Rainbows often appear in the mists raised by the water. Make sure to enjoy the cherry blossom trail too.

Coal Mine Museum
Old abandoned mine tracks and vintage equipment take you back to the early days of mining in
Taiwan at this museum. Coal car rides are also offered to the mine entrance.

Ama's Heavenly Lanterns
Once used as a signal to warn neighboring villages of bandits, "heavenly lanterns" are the highlight at Pingxi annual lantern festival. Ama's has been selling these artistic lanterns for over a decade. (*"Ama" means "grandmother" in Taiwanese.)
