Guide to the Taipei MRT System

With nine lines accessing most parts of the city, the Taipei Mass Rapid Transit
system is one of the easiest ways to get around town. This section briefly introduces the MRT system,and for more information you can visit:http://www.trtc.com.tw/e/


Danshui Line
Opened in 1997, the Danshui (Red) Line runs north from Taipei Main Station to the riverside town of Danshui. Several tourist sites are located near Zhongshan and Jiantan stations.
First train: 06:00
Last train: 24:00
Peak train frequency: ~7 mins.
Off-peak train frequency: ~8 mins.
After 23:00: ~15 mins.

Xindian Line
Opened in 1999, the Xindian (Green) Line provides access to Taipei's southern districts and satellite cities, including Gongguan,Guting, and Xindian District
First train: 06:00
Last train: 24:00
Peak train frequency: ~7 mins.
Off-peak train frequency: ~8 mins.
After 23:00: ~15 mins.

Banqiao,Nangang, and Tucheng Line
Linking Banqiao City and Taipei's Xinyi District, this line is a recently opened
extension of the Bannan Line, with service to Eslite's flagship bookstore and other popular sites.
First train: 06:00 Last train: 24:00
Peak train frequency: Kunyang-Yongning: ~7 mins.
Kunyang-Far Eastern Hospital: ~3 min. 30 sec.
Off-peak train frequency: Kunyang-Yongning: ~8 min.
Kunyang-Far Eastern Hospital: ~4 min.

Wenshan-Neihu Line
This line runs between the Taipei Zoo in the south and Taipei Nangang Exhibition center in the north.
First train: 06:00
Last train: 24:00
Peak train frequency: ~3 min.
Off-peak train frequency: ~5 min.

Riding the MRT

Ticketing Machines
1. Check the route map for the fare to
your destination.
2. Select fare and number of tickets.
3. Pay fare in coins or bills.
5. Retrieve ticket.
6. Retrieve change.

Turnstile Guide (for single trip tickets)
1. Feed ticket face up into the gate slot.
2. The ticket will appear at the top slot and must be retrieved before the gate will open
3. Tickets will automatically be reclaimed at the gate upon exit

Hakka Culture in Neiwan & Beipu

Neiwan and Beipu are home to large Hakka communities, the cultural influence of which can be seen in the local architecture and cuisine. Neiwan Train Station This station welcomes visitors with rustic charm and scenic surroundings. The building is colorfully adorned with illustrations by a well-known local cartoonist. The old part of town is located just across the street. From Taipei Main Station take the train to Hsinchu and then take the Neiwan Branch Line to Neiwan. Neiwan Suspension Bridge This 14.7-meter-long bridge spans the Youluo River in the town of Neiwan. The bridge offers an excellent vantage from which to enjoy the picturesque views of the surrounding mountains and the river passing below. The riverbanks under the bridge are popular fishing spots.
